Intake Limit Reached for Ontario's International Masters Graduate Stream

Ontario Resumes Accepting Applications for Masters and PhD Graduate Streams
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has again begun accepting applications to the International Masters Graduate and International PhD Graduate streams. This represents the second time in 2017 that these two streams have opened to receive applications. Both streams are popular with international graduates, and offers a route to Canadian permanent residence for eligible individuals.

Investments in Higher Education Across Canada Expected to Improve Infrastructure and Research
The opening months of 2017 have seen a series of investments in higher education institutions across Canada. In the last week, Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario, McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and Holland College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island have received significant funding for a range of projects that are intended to ensure Canada's continuance as a leading education destination and research hub. These investments follow soon after a flurry of similar initiatives in Ontario.

Governments Invest in Higher Education in Prince Edward Island
The government of Canada and the government of Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) are each investing $2.3 million to develop infrastructure at Holland College, Prince Edward Island. The investment forms part of Canada's Innovation Agenda, which aims to develop the country's capacity for innovation, job creation, and industry growth.

Update to Instructions for International Students Working On-Campus in Canada
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has updated the process for international students who are applying for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) to work on-campus. As of February 10, 2017, international students no longer need an employment contract to apply for a SIN.

Government of Canada Allows Mexican Nationals to Apply for eTA in Advance of Removing Visa Requirement
As of December 1, 2016, Mexican nationals will no longer be required to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) in order to enter Canada for temporary visits, work, or study. Instead, citizens of Mexico will need to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before travelling to Canada by air. In preparation for this change, the government of Canada has announced that as of November 25, 2016, Mexican nationals may apply in advance for an eTA.

Changes to Processing of Applications for Canadian Permanent Residence from International Students on the Horizon Â
It is expected that the government of Canada will soon announce changes to the processing of Canadian permanent residence applications from international graduates of Canadian study programs.
A recent report from the Advisory Council on Economic Growth — which recommended that Canada boost its immigration levels to 450,000 in order to optimize economic growth in Canada — advised that Canada welcome more international graduates as permanent residents. The Council proposed two ways to ease the pathway to permanent residence for international students in Canada: increasing the number of points allocated under the Express Entry system, and simplifying the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process for employers who want to hire international graduates who studied at Canadian institutions.
